Healthy Lifestyles Arts Education Programme

South Hill Park, in partnership with the NHS and Bracknell Forest Borough Council, have piloted a healthy lifestyles arts education programme. Healthy Lifestyles is designed to teach young people and their families about the importance of making positive lifestyle choices in childhood.

Weight is a significant issue among adults, often leading to more complex health conditions later in life. It also places a considerable strain on the NHS, currently costing around £6.5 billion a year. If current trends continue, this figure is projected to rise to £9 billion by 2050.

Healthy lifestyles start early. In Bracknell, approximately 30% of children aged 7 and 8 are classified as overweight or obese — and this number is increasing. We also know that children who are overweight are more likely to become overweight adults.

While some underlying health conditions can contribute to weight gain, in the vast majority of cases, it comes down to lifestyle and physical activity.

This project was a collaboration between the NHS and South Hill Park and was funded by Public Health. We worked with two local primary schools to engage children in a creative, meaningful way.

As you will see through the exhibition, website, and videos, we’ve taken a different approach — one that aims to educate children and their parents now, whilst also leaving behind resources and materials that all primary schools can benefit from in the future.

We hope the exhibition, videos, and other tools will also encourage parents to get involved and feel empowered to support their child in leading a healthier life — both now and in the years to come.

Thank you for visiting. I hope you enjoy the exhibition and resources.
